Noordwelle

Noordwelle is a small village located between Burgh-Haamstede and Renesse and has around 300 inhabitants. Noordwelle may not be very large, but it has a very close-knit community where almost everyone knows each other.

The showpiece of the village is the imposing church situated on a typical church ring, and the charming little village has no fewer than 13 national monuments.

Noordwelle is one of the six villages on Schouwen Duiveland where the tradition of the Strao is held, also known as the spring festival, which people celebrate when the days start to grow longer. People also believed in the cleansing power of the water for the horses' feet. In Noordwelle, this great festival always takes place on the last Saturday of February.
